Volleyball Beats Oberlin in a Road NCAC Conquest

The Blue Streaks beat the Yeowomen in four sets

OBERLIN – On the road for a Saturday North Coast Athletic Conference showdown, John Carroll Volleyball got the job done.

The Blue Streaks conquered Oberlin College on the road to advance to 2-3 on the year in NCAC play.

John Carroll notched a fourth win in five matches by a set score of 25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22.

The Blue Streaks raced out to a 15-7 lead before Oberlin took a timeout to try to stem the bleeding. A balanced offensive effort by JCU ensured that the visitors cruised to victory, 25-17.

JCU's youngsters got some playing in the early going, though Hailey Williams spurred on the offense down the stretch. JCU largely dominated the middle point of the set before Oberlin started to comeback, but a Glowe kill slammed the door shut at 25-20.

Oberlin extended the match by winning the third set. The Yeowomen started strong, firing out to a 16-6 start, thanks to a 9-0 run. Errors hurt JCU, and while Glowe tried to make it closer, Oberlin ran away with it, 25-19.

A 7-0 Oberlin run threatened to make things really interesting in the fourth set. But JCU tallied a 10-2 run to take control, as Oberlin errors and strong play by the Clevelanders up front changed the dynamic of the set. Oberlin kept it close late thanks to a pair of service aces, but a pair of Oberlin errors allowed JCU to sneak out with a 25-22 clincher.

Glowe notched a team-high 14 kills, followed by Khloe Trivoli with 12 kills. Tess Murray tabbed 34 assists. Olivia Mogyordy registered 25 digs to lead the team.
