John Carroll held early leads of 8-2 and 11-6, and still held a 17-15 advantage with eight minutes left in the opening half, but the Vikings used a 23-12 run down the stretch to take a 38-29 lead into the intermission.

After Rudy Kirbus converted a pair of free throws top open the second half, Cleveland State rattled off the  next ten markers to build a 17-point margin. The Vikings would lead by as much as 27 points before John Carroll cut the deficit to 17 by game's end.

The Blue Streaks were paced by an exceptional effort by Matt Crozier, who was 8-9 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line for a team-high 22 points. Kirbus added 14 points and Patrick Sweeney added 10 for JCU, which was 27-64 (,422) from the field and 18-23 (.783) from the free throw line.
