The pitching and hitting both stayed hot on Wednesday afternoon in Orlando for the John Carroll softball team, as wins over Clark and Northland pushed the team record to 5-1.
The Blue Streaks have managed to score 47 runs while allowing just eight through their first six games of the year.
Against Clark, the freshmen stole the show as
Erin Riccardi (North Canton, Hoover High School) went 2-3 with three runs and two RBI, while fellow rookie
Olivia Mathews (Suffield, OH, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) drove home three runs as she was 2-4 with a triple.
All this was in support of another solid outing bynewcomer
Brittany Danilov (Canfield, OH, Canfield), who pitched six inning os shutout ball, striking out seven while walking only two. She allowed just five hits, and only one for extra bases, in improving to 3-1.
In their second game of the day, the Blue Streaks had to fight hard for a 3-1 win over Northland, who are the defending Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament champion.
Sam Thompson (Cheektowaga, NY, Maryvale) pitched the first five innings, with Danilov coming in for the final two to secure the win. The duo combined for seven strikeouts.
