On the same afternoon, the John Carroll softball team tied a program record for wins in a season and had its seven-game winning streak snapped in a split with Case Western Reserve Thursday at Bracken Field.

JCU won game one by a 5-0 score as Brittany Danilov (Canfield, OH, Canfield) tossed a three-hit shutout. 

The offense supplied the only necessary runs in the second frame. Jamie Smrdel (Kirtland, OH, Beaumont) doubled to left field to lead off the inning. Following an Angela Vistocco (Victor, NY, Victor) single, pinch runner Jamie Colley (Houston, TX, St. Agnes Academy) advanced would score on an Olivia Mathews (Suffield, OH, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) sacrifice bunt. Vistocco would later score the second run of the inning on a ground out.

Already ahead 2-0, JCU tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth. Julie Marlowe (Harmony, PA, Seneca Valley) drove in two of those runs while Laura Boselovic (Wexford, PA, North Allegheny) knocked in the other.

Since allowing a first-inning home run against Wooster on April 16, Danilov has now gone 32 consecutive innings without allowing a run and is now 16-5 on the year.

The victory marked John Carroll's 24th win of the year, matching a single-season school record set in 2000 and 2003.

JCU tried to win game number 25, but fell short in the nightcap. 5-4. JCU trailed 5-0 through five innings, but rallied with four runs in the sixth. Jamie Smrdel hit a pinch hit two run double for two of thr runs, while Boselovic had a triple and scored the fourth and final tally.

The loss halted JCU's second longest winning streak of the year and left the team record at 24-8.
