Playing a home match over fall break weekend, the John Carroll Blue Streaks attacked at will Saturday afternoon, blitzing visiting Muskingum University for six first half goals in a 6-1 victory.

Box Score

The victory marked a season-high fourth in a row for the JCU women's soccer team.

Muskingum entered the game with a bit of momentum coming off an overtime victory over Marietta Tuesday. However, the Blue Streaks never allowed the Muskies a chance to build anything offensively.

At the 12 minute mark, Betsy Haigh, the reigning OAC Player of the Week, connected with Val Korb to score the first goal of the game and allow John Carroll to take a 1-0 lead.

Haigh and Korb then teamed up again, as Haigh headed a well-positioned assist from Korb into the back of the net to score her fifth goal of the season. This marks her fourth consecutive game with a goal or an assist.

The third and fourth goals of the game, scored only 47 seconds apart, were also scored by Korb to tally a hat-trick for the game.

”I was really excited to finally put some goals away,” said Korb. “We also played well as a team today.”

JCU was not through, as Eleanor Sovacool came off the bench to tally goals five and six. With only ten minutes remaining in the first half, Erin Nealon connected with Sovacool, who scored her first goal of the season on a difficult angled shot. Three minutes later, Sovacool struck again on a corner kick, assisted by both Amanda Buxton and Jackie Murrer.

In the second half, John Carroll continued to maintain control of the ball and only allow one goal from Brittany Ennemoser who perfectly placed the kick over reserve goalkeeper Nicole Grys

John Carroll's win improved its record to 7-6-2 and 4-1 in OAC competition. This is the first time all season that John Carroll's overall record has moved above .500. Muskingum slipped to 2-13 and 1-4 in league action.

“This game gave us great momentum to go into the Heidelberg game,” said Korb. “We hope to keep up the intensity for the rest of our OAC games.”
