Amanda Buxton and the Blue Streaks battled toe-to-toe with the #4 ranked team in Division III Saturday at Shula Stadium
It was not necessarily the intention of head coach Tracy Blasius to schedule nationally ranked opponents in back-to-back matches four days apart.
Turns out it just worked that way on its own accord.
If anything can be gained from Saturday's 1-0 loss to #4 ranked Otterbein and a 0-0 draw last Wednesday to #16 ranked Allegheny, it is that her Blue Streaks should not be afraid to play anyone.
Box Score
"We gave up one goal in 200 minutes to a pair of teams that are a comnined 17-0-2 this season,' said Blasius. "While I am disappointed that we couldn't find a way to win either game, i am proud of the way we didn't back down. Especially today, we played hard from start to finish."
John Carroll struggled to generate offense in the first half, but launched a 20-minute assault at Otterbein to open the second half that had the Cardinals on their heels.
But Otterbein was able to swing the momentum back their way, and capitalized in the 80ty minute when a well played cross by Laura Vasbinder was knocked into the right side by Rachel Denz.
JCU was fairly even in total shots -- Otterbein held a 10-7 advanatge -- and shots on goal. Both Otterbein senior Tara Carter and JCU senior Molly Gradkowski stopped three shots in goal.
Otterbein is now 8-0-1 and 1-0 in the OAC with its victory, whiel John carroll slips to 3-6-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
