Drew Edson's win in the 1000 Free was part of nine consecutive event wins for the Blue Streaks in their season opener
There were a lot of veterans in the winner's circle Saturday, but a few rookies showed their faces also as John Carroll rolled to a 127-72 season-opening victory over Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College at the William H. Johnson Natatorium.
Results
The very first race showed this healthy mix of years on the roster. The winning 200 medley relay quartet featured juniors
Blake Pinchot (Solon, OH, Solon) (back),
Evan Coury (Sewickley, PA, Quaker Valley) (breast) and
Eric Davis (Canfield, OH, Canfield) (fly) along with freshman
David Sved (Loudonville, OH, Mansfield St. Peters) (free) that won the event in 1:46.18.
Sophomore
Drew Edson (Birmingham, MI, Brother Rice ) had a solid outing in the 1000 Free, winning by over 11 seconds in a time of 11:12.08.
Junior
Jimmy Ranallo (Willoughby, OH, Notre-Dame Cathedral Latin) swam a strong 1:51.14 for a double-digit margin of victory over the field in the 200 Free, while Davis and Sved finished 1-2 in the 50 Free. Davis clocked in at 22.91, right in front of Sved's 23.29.
Carey was again impressive in his 200 IM victory (2:13.56), setting the stage for a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 Fly. Davis won the event in 55.93, followed by freshman
Evan Coury (1:00.12) and Edson (1:02.48).
A pair of rookies claimed the top two spots in the 100 Free, as
Nick Holvey (Akron, OH, Revere ) (51.20) edged Sved (51.26) at the wall.
Pincho claimed his second win of the afternoon and his first individually by pulling ahead for an almost three-second margin of victory in the 100 Back (1:00.94).
The final points JCU scored took place in the 500 Free, as Ranallo (5:15.41), Edson (5:30.76) and Holvey (5:39.10) went 1-2-3.
