Moran Coach of the Year, Four Blue Streaks On All-OAC Team As Conference Men's Basketball Awards Announced

Mike Moran picked up his fifth Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award and four of his players earned all-league recognition as the 2010 All-OAC Men's Basketball Team and special award winners were announced Monday.

Moran guided John Carroll to its second consecutive OAC regular season title in its ninth overall in his 18th season at the helm. JCU won its final ten regular season games to post a 15-3 record to win the title by a full two games over runner-up Wilmington College.

Moran has a record of 328-168 overall and an OAC mark of 219-109 in his tenure as John Carroll head coach.

Senior Rudy Kirbus and sophomore Corey Shontz were selected as first team All-OAC honorees for the 2009-2010 season. Senior Chris Zajac and sophomore Matt Crozier earned honorable mention status.

Kirbus, the lone four-year starter on this year's team, surpassed the 1,300-point mark for his career this season. He led the team in minutes per game (22.5) and was second in both scoring (13.0) and rebounding (4.8). Kirbus was fourth in the OAC in three-point field goals made per game (2.12) and tenth in three-point field goal percentage (.417).

This is the second consecutive year in which Kirbus was named first team All-OAC.

Shontz was named first team All-OAC for the first time in 2009-2010. The team's leading scorer (14.3 ppg), Shontz was fourth in the OAC in both assists (3.73) and steals (1.96) per game, and his scoring averaged was eighth best in the league for a team that topped the conference and is ranked third in the nation with 88.7 points per contest.

Zajac earned honorable mention all-conference status for the second consecutive year after leading the league in assists-to-turnover ratio (+2.22) -- a number that also ranks 33rd in all of Division III. Zajac also stands fourth in the OAc in steals (1/96) and seventh in assists (3.15).

Crozier earned a spot on the All-OAC team for the first time in his career. The team's top rebounder (7.3 rpg) also ranked fourth in the OAc in that category. he was also seventh in field goal percentage (.569) and ninth in blocked shots (0.65).

John Carroll, with an overall record of 20-6 and champion of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season, is making its 12th appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament and its sixth in the last eight years
