Emily Bendzak contributed 12 digs to the cause as JCU swept neighborhood rival Notre Dame
The Blue Streaks were looking for a good start to their 2010 season.
They found it
John Carroll broke away from a tie score midway through game one and cruised to a 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 sweep of visiting Notre Dame College Wednesday night at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
Box Score
An evenly played opening set between the Blue Streaks and Falcons would give way to a rout. After the score was tied for the seventh time at 11-11, John Carroll would win ten of the next twelve points, sparked by
Jess Hammer, who won six straight points on her serve aided by two aces.
JCU burst out of the gate by winning 14 of the first 19 points in game two, with
Kerry Fox and
Laura Sudo leading the way with two kills apiece as part of the rally.
Game three was a showcase for
Teresa Noewer, who had seven of her match-high 12 kills in the final frame. After the Falcons pulled to within 16-14, JCU pulled away thanks to four Noewer putaways.
Noewer and Fox (11 kills) led the attack which produced 44 kills, while
Meredith McDiarmid had 36 assists.
Emily Bendzak and
Melanie Rodriguez paced the Streaks with 12 digs, and
Charlotte Sykora had three solo blocks.
