Laura Sudo (center, #15) and Kerry Fox (right, #14) fought hard to close out their JCU careers with a win Saturday against Capital
A season which began promisingly with seven wins in the first nine matches ended in less than glamorous fashion for the John Carroll volleyball team.
Then again, fighting for pride and fighting to send two seniors out on a high note does not have to be thing of beauty.
A strong-willed Blue Streak squad showed up to face Ohio Athletic Conference tournament bound Capital University Saturday afternoon, and gave the visiting Crusaders a tussle before falling in four sets (25-15, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21) at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
Box Score
JCU struggled to find rhythm in the first two sets, dropping those by ten and nine points, respectively. But showing a bit of moxie, the Streaks would push Capital in the third game. The frame went beyond regulation, with JCU winning the final two points for a 26-24 win that extended the match.
The Blue Streaks held a late lead in the fourth game, going up 18-17 on a Sarah Slagle kill. But Capital kicked up another gear to avoid a fifth game, winning eight of the final eleven points to close out the match.
In their final career matches as Blue Streaks, Kerry Fox tallied 15 kills, 15 assists and nine digs, while fellow senior Laura Sudo had six kills and two assisted blocks.
John Carroll wraps up its 2011 campaign with a record of 9-18 overall and 0-9 in the OAC.
