There were several instances Thursday evening where John Carroll threatened to pull away from Regis College in the opening game of the 2011 Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament.

Those first few threats proved to be idle. The last one did the trick.

Using an 18-2 burst that begin inside the nine-minute mark of the second half, the Blue Streaks finally put away the scrappy Pride and rolled to an 86-60 victory.

The win by John Carroll and the victory posted by host Case Reserve over Waynesburg in the second game of the evening set up an all-Cleveland final of the Sudeck Tournament on Friday at CWRU's Horsburgh Gymnasium, with tip set for 4:00 p.m.

JCU began the night with an opening burst that sent it out to a 10-3 advantage. But Regis, coming off a 19-day competitive layoff, shook off the rust and grabbed a 19-15 lead on a Lewis Smith free throw with 9:13 left on the first half clock.

The Streaks responded by scoring 29 of the final 35 points of the half and took a commanding 44-25 lead into the locker room.

JCU would push the lead out to 23 points before the Pride showed it would not go quietly. Thanks to a 15-2 run, Regis pulled to within ten points at 57-47 on a Jonathon Josselin lay-up with 12:15 to play.

Regis had the lead down to ten on three occasions but could not drop the deficit to single digits.

The Blue Streaks made sure there would be no drama down the stretch. With Jeff Chahine and Michael Hartnett each scoring five points to kick off the game's decisive run, the Blue Streaks never looked back.

Eight different players scored at least six points for John Carroll (7-2), which won its in its first appearance on the court since December 17. Mark Hester scored 16 and Corey Shontz added 15 for the Streaks.

Josselin led all players with 18 points for Regis (3-4), who will play Waynesburg in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
