It was half the match it was intended to be, but John Carroll made the most of the abbreviated event Tuesday night at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

Reduced to five actual bouts due to five forfeits by the visiting Quakers, the match between John Carroll and Wilmington went the way of the Blue Streaks by a 47-3 count.

The victory marked JCu's first of the season in Ohio Athletic Conference competition.

Of the five contested weight classes, the Blue Streaks prevailed in four. John Cobos (Avon Lake, OH, Lakewood St. Edward) got the night off with a 6-3 upset of 2010 OAC runner-up Donny Herrington at 125 pounds. Trailing 2-0 early on, Cobos used a late first period reversal and back points to move ahead.

Kevin Nycz (Parma, OH, Holy Name) followed with an impressive 17-1 technical fall at 133 pounds, needing just four minutes and 16 seconds to wrap up the victory.

At 149 pounds, Ken Locsei (Willoughby, OH, South) also shook off an early takedown to defeat Tim Dettwiler, 8-5.

Vinny Pizzuli (North Olmsted, OH, Lakewood St. Edward) made quick work of Tyler Baker at 157 pounds, getting a takedown that eventually turned into a pin at the 1:09 mark.

The last bout at 285 pounds went the distance, with Wilmington's Randy Swain using a takedown with 13 seconds left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie. He would defeat Will Porter (Willoughby, OH, Willoughby South ) of JCU, 3-2.

Greg Ryan (Warren, OH, Howland) (141), Sean Gill (Cleveland, OH, St. Ignatius) (165), Todd Gaydosh (North Royalton, OH, Parma Padua Franciscan) (174), Bryan Steinmetz (Port Washington, WI, Port Washington) (184) and Alex Garred (Willoughby, OH, Willoughby South) (197) all accepted forfeit victories.

JCU is now 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the OAC, while Wilmington falls to 1-8 and 0-4
