Blue & Gold Softball Falls Victim To Crusade

Box Score The woes continue for the John Carroll softball team as they drop their sixth and seventh games in a row Saturday afternoon in Columbus.  The Capital Crusaders (14-5, 3-0 OAC) defeated the Blue Streaks (13-9, 0-4 OAC) 6-4 in game one of a double-dip, and then fell 6-0 in the nightcap.

In game one, Capital scored four runs off Blue Streaks pitcher Brittany Danilov in the first inning.  Junior Devan Boggs led off the ballgame with a solo homerun, and then three batters later junior Lexi Majoy capped off the inning with another Capital homerun, giving the Crusaders a commanding 4-0 lead after one.

The Blue Streaks would answer with two runs immediately after in the second inning thanks to a Lia Locey triple that scored Colleen Brady, which was then followed up by a Michelle Murphy single that scored Locey.

With a 4-2 Capital edge heading into fifth, the Crusaders would strike for two more giving themselves a 6-2 lead.  The Blue & Gold would however answer back in the sixth and seventh innings with a run in each, but however proved to not be sufficient enough to knock off the Crusaders.

Brittany Danilov and Michelle Murphy led the way for the Blue Streaks offensively in game one contributing two hits apiece.  The Blue Streaks finished with nine in the game.

In game two, the Blue Streaks were only held to four hits and were shutout, 4-0, by sophomore pitcher Jessica Montgomery.  Montgomery pitched a complete game while striking out three and walking only one.

Offensively, the Crusaders struck early in game two scoring one in the first, one in the second, and three in the third.  Freshman LeAnna Cotton homered to centerfield in the second inning, and finished the game with two hits and two runs scored.

Sophomore Trisha Pike dropped to 5-3 on the season pitching six innings while giving up six runs off eight hits.  She struck out one and walked four.

The Blue & Gold will look to put a halt to their seven game losing streak when they host Hiram College in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday April 4 at Bracken Field.
