The "home run derby" that broke out was certainly unprecedented given past performances by Blue Streaks hitters and pitchers. In fact, the seven home runs hit in one game this afternoon topped John Carroll's total team output in 13 different seasons of its program history
In the 31st meeting between the two non-conference Cleveland area rivals, JCU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a
Michelle Murphy three-run triple, and still led 6-2 after the top of the second inning following a
Mackenzie Griffin home run.
But a five-run bottom fo the fourth sent Case Reserve on its way, with NFCA All-American Lauren Wolz doing the most damage with a three-run round tripper.
The Spartans ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to push the margin to eight tallies.
In the nightcap, the John Carroll offense had a dry gas tank, as it managed just two hits in a 6-1 setback.
The losses dropped the Blue Streaks' overall record to 22-12.
