Forgettable Night In Berea Results In First Losing Streak Of Season For JCU Men's Basketball

Regan Sweeney and the Blue Streaks struggled to slow down a red-hot Baldwin Wallace club
Box Score Up until this point of the season, the John Carroll men's basketball team had yet to experience a winning or losing streak.

Wednesday night changed that pattern, and not for the better.

In the 108th meeting between John Carroll University and the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets, the Blue Streaks were unable to overcome a double digit first half deficit, eventually falling by a 106-75 in an otherwise forgettable evening Berea.

Early in the first half, both teams were trading punches and the Blue Streaks were able to stay within six points -- thanks in large part to senior forward Kyle Hubbard's eight points within the first 12 minutes. At that point, John Carroll only trailed 27-24, and was still within reach.

From there, Baldwin Wallace executed from the free throw line, knocking down 10 of 12 shots en route to a 12 point half-time lead. The opposing Yellow Jackets shot 43 percent from the three point arch and 85 percent from the free throw line.

Baldwin Wallace came out red hot in the second half, scoring nine points in the first three minutes jumping out to a 22-point lead and never looked back. In the final half, the Jackets shot 61 percent from the field and 53 percent from the three point line, never giving John Carroll an opportunity to climb back into the game.

Kyle Hubbard led the Blue Streaks (6-7, 3-4 OAC) in scoring with 18 points, along with sophomores Kyle Pisco and Regan Sweeney who chipped in 13 and 12 points apiece.

Baldwin Wallace (10-4, 5-2 OAC) had five players in double digits and outrebounded the Blue and Gold, 40-20, for the evening.
