John Carroll and Capital have met in the OAC Tournament in each of the past three seasons.
Making its third OAC Championship appearance in as many years, the John Carroll University women's soccer team will face a familiar foe on Sunday afternoon in Columbus.
For the third straight year John Carroll and Capital will meet up in the OAC Tournament and for the second time during the stretch the championship is on the line. The Blue Streaks (11-6-3) and the Crusaders (15-4-1) will square off at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Blue Streaks and Crusaders have split their last two postseason matchups. Last season, the Blue Streaks saw
Haley McDonald,
Genny Goergen and
Kay Akerly bury the first three JCU penalty kick shots to pull John Carroll past Capital in a shootout.
Two years ago, the Blue Streaks traveled to the Crusaders and fell 4-2 in the championship match.
The trio of heroes from last year's win over Capital have sparked John Carroll as of late.
After opening up conference play with losses to Capital and Otterbein, McDonald went on to post seven straight shutouts as JCU climbed from the bottom of the standings all the way to a tie with Capital to earn co-regular season championship honors with a 7-2 mark in conference play.
Trailing 1-0 with just under 20 minutes remaining in Thursday night's OAC semifinal against Ohio Northern, Akerly knotted the score burying a penalty kick for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Faced with yet another sudden-victory situation with a spot in the championship on the line Goergen gave the win to John Carroll taking a pass from
Preston Mendel and sending the game-winner into the top left corner of the goal on a chilly Thursday night in University Heights.
Capital advanced to the tournament with a 1-0 win over Otterbein on Thursday. Livvy Hein scored the lone goal of the contest netting a shot following a loose ball to give the Crusaders their second 1-0 win over the Cardinals in less than a week.
Nicki Bohrer will look to get the offense rolling on Sunday along with Akerly. Bohrer checks in second on the team with six goals on the season.
The Blue Streak back line led by senior captain
Kayla Acklin will look to keep the Crusaders out of the net as McDonald and the Blue Streaks allowed their first goal in the OAC semifinals since Oct. 8.
Capital will counter with Hilary Ellis who leads the conference with 13 goals. She will be joined up front by Jamie Murray who has eight scores on the season.
The Crusaders will look to Becca Cartmill to set up the offense as Cartmill leads the OAC with nine assist.

statistics will be available.
