Box Score Looking to get a mid-week win the John Carroll volleyball team responded with a four-set win over host Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening.
The 28-26, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20 win gave the Blue Streaks' their first mid-week win of the season and improved John Carroll's record to 8-6.
Looking to put swings away, three Blue Streaks responded with 10 or more kills with Jessica Kodrich (13),
Sarah Orlandi (11) and
Leah Switalski (10) leading the way.
Kit O'Shaughnessy notched her sixth double-double of the season with 50 assists and 11 digs. The freshman also served up five aces for the match.
"We had more aggressive serving coupled with more disciplined blocking which made things more difficult for them," said head coach
Laura Rodeffer.
The Blue Streaks came out swinging early in the first set recording a .260 hitting percentage. Switalski and
Alex Ehrett each had five kills in the opening frame with
Sara Kaminski adding eight digs. Three attack errors by JCU kept the Battling Bishops in the set before
Alexa Webber and Ehrett gave the Blue Streaks the set.
Both teams hitters headed up in the second set with Ohio Wesleyan hitting a blistering .455 and John Carroll hanging right with the Battling Bishops at .303. Kodrich connected on two kills to tie the score at 20 and 21. However a block by Meigan Day and Shannon Schlater gave the set to the Battling Bishops.
The Blue Streak defense dug in during the third set holding Ohio Wesleyan to a -.054 mark in the frame. Two kills by Webber and one from Kodrich opened up a six point advantage for the Blue Streaks midway through the set and John Carroll never looked back.
Two 3-0 mini-runs down the stretch in the fourth set gave the match to the Blue Streaks. A bad set from Ohio Wesleyan setter Shannon Schlater secured the match for John Carroll.
Up next, the Blue Streaks head to Carnegie Mellon for the Carnegie Mellon Double Tree Invitational where the team will play at 4 and 6 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
