Depth Trumps Desire As JCU Falls To Mount Union In Men's Swimming & Diving

The effort was there, but the numbers were not.

At least not for John Carroll.

A competitive Ohio Athletic Conference battle between a pair of rival programs took place Saturday inside the Johnson Natatorium, much more so than the final score of 175-119 in favor of visiting Mount Union would indicate.

After Mount Union won the opening 200 Medley Relay, Tom Pacak turned in a dominating effort in the 1000 freestyle event with a first place finish and a time of 10:09.79. His margin of victory was nearly 20 seconds.

The Purple Raiders than took control with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 Free, and won five consecutive events before John Liber scored the first of his two victories on the day in 1-meter diving, scoring 249.40 points to defeat 2015 OAC Diver of the Year Nathan Levengood.

Brian Hulseman picked up a victory in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 49.91.

Later on, David Kirtek found success in the 200 Breaststroke with an impressive finishing time of 2:15.63, beating two-time OAC Swimmer of the Year Tyler Moore in the process.

Liber later won three-meter diving with a score of 229.90.

With the loss, John Carroll falls to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. Mount Union improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league meets.
