Winning the first time out in a track season is a great tone setter, and the 4 x 400 relay did just that Saturday at the University of Mount Union Toy Drive Invite for the John Carroll team.

Noelle Saluan combined to give John Carroll a win in the 1600-meter race. The quartet covered the distance in 4:10.42, winning the race by a margin of just over five seconds.
That effort highlighted a solid first day of competition for the Blue Streaks in the 2015-16 campaign.
In the 400-meter dash, Saluan (6th, 1:02.47),
Ashura Powell (7th, 1:02.72) and
Sara Lehman (8th, 1:02.78) all placed top eight.
Alaina Schmidt was fourth (1:24.89) and Jessica Swisher was sixth (1:25.91) in the 500-meter run.
In the hurdles, Martinko was sixth in the 60-meter event with a time of 9.66.
Two Blue Streaks placed top eight in field events. Swisher was seventh in pole vault, clearing 2.80 meters.
Katelyn Frandanisa was sixth in the triple jump, posting a mark of 9.64 meters.
