Emmy Jenkins took down the school record in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash Friday evening, highlighting the first full team effort of the 2015-16 indoor track & field season for the John Carroll women's team.
John Carroll finished fourth of five teams at the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet, hosted bt the University of Mount Union. Ohio Northern won the meet with 165 points, with Mount Union a close second at 157. Baldwin Wallace (94), John Carroll (91) and Heidelberg (63) rounded out the field.
Complete ResultsThe record Jenkins took down was her own, set in 2013. To start the night, Jenkins ran the preliminary race in 8.02 to break her mark of 8.08. Â Jenkins would wind up taking third place in the final with a time of 8.06.
Schasia Modrzynski provided her own highlight in the 3000-meter run as she and teammate
Hanna Sterle went 1-2 in the final. It was a dominant effort by the Blue Streak duo as Modrzynski finished first in 10:38.84, while Sterle took second in 10:47.91 -- almost nine full seconds ahead of third place.
Becky Rohwer was a point scoring machine, claiming first by nearly two seconds in the 800-meter run (2:26.36).
Rohwer also picked up a first place finish for John Carroll in the one-mile run, holding off Mount Union's Mandy Mohn by less than a second margin. Rohwer won in 5:17.65, while Mohn finished in 5:18.59. Ein Kiley  and
Cassie Schillero also scored points in the mile, finishing fifth (5:36.35 and sixth (5:42.16), respectively.
In the 400-meter dash, Jessica Swisher finished second in 1:03.07, while
Alainna Schmidt was fourth in 1:06.60.
Alyssa Biedron (3rd, 1:22.47),
Sara Lehman (4th, 1:22.50),
Joy Nyaanga (5th, 1:22.68) and
Noelle Saluan (6th, 1:23.10) helped the Blue Streaks haul in points in the 500-meter run.
In the 4 x 200 Relay, the JCU squad of Jenkins, Gabrielle Leon,
Sara Martinko and
Ashura Powell finished second in 1:50.95. The 4 x 400 also ended the night as a runner-up, as Nyaanga, Biedron, Saluan and Martinko covered the distance in 4:10.10.
The Blue Streaks also picked up points in the field events, as
Katelyn Frandanisa finished fifth in the triple jump (9.40 meters / 30-10 1/4).
