Buoyed by some outstanding efforts on the track and in the jumps, the John Carroll men's track team found itself in the upper division by the conclusion of the 2016 Division III All-Ohio Indoor Championships Saturday, finishing in a tie for sixth place out of 17 teams competing at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.
Complete ResultsAlthough no Blue Streak earned a title, a number of Blue Streaks earned All-Ohio status with top three showings. The Distance Medley relay falls in that category, as the four member team of
Patrick O'Brien,
Michael Hydzik,
Ryan Scanlon and
Matt Andrews finished the race in 10:21.54 to earn runner-up status,
Hydzik had one other top three showing, as he and Will cameron earned the honor in the 800-meter run. Cameron took second with a school record time of 1:55.62, while Hydzik was third in 1:56.64.Â
One other relay also earned a top three showing. The quartet of
Jonathon Radney,
Cole Weirich, Nicholas Woods and
Austin McIlvaine finished third in the 4 x 200 race, clocking in at 1:31.34.
The 4 x 400 just missed on a top three, as Hydzik, Woods, McIlvaine and Cameron placed fourth in 3:25.14.
Andrews followed up his efforts in the distance medley with a sixth place showing in the mile run (4:29.10).
In what his head coach Kyle Basista called "the gutsiest race of his career", Andrew Snyder turned ina  personalbest 8:44.20 to finish fourth in the 3000-meter run.
Frankie Caponi continues to shine this winter, as he took fifth in the 60- hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.52.
One final All-Ohio effort was turned in by Adam North in the long jump. By clearing a distance of 6.75 meters, North took second in the competition.A slew of Blue Streaks also competed Friday night at the Mid-February Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University. Â JCU finished tied for seventh with 44 points, off the pace of champion Buffalo State which ended up with 124.50 points.

Dan Loya was the runner-up in the 1000-meter run (2:40.35), and was followed across the finish line by
Kyle Monahan (3rd, 2:40.92) and
Corey Large (5th, 2:42.64).
In the one-mile run,
Ross Martin finished third (4:37.11) while teammate
Luke Cancilla was sixth (4:40.11).
Gus Kazek continued his strong indoor season by placing fourth in the 3000-meter run (9:01.38).
Nate Hunter placed in the points in the weight throw with a distance of 14.07 meters, good for sixth place.
