A pair of relays wins lead the John Carroll women's indoor track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the Joe Bank Invitational in Ada, Ohio on Saturday.
The Blue Streaks finished behind Ohio Northern (154), Otterbein (122) and Heidelberg (91) with 72 points.
Complete Results Wins in the 4x400-meter relay and distance medley relay were key victories for the Blue Streaks. The 4x400 team of
Sara Martinko,
Joy Nyaanga,
Ashura Powell and
Noelle Saluan crossed the finish line with a time of 4:07.77, nearly three second faster than the runner-up Heidelberg squad.
Lauren Gornik,
Emma Harvey,
Schasia Modrzynski and
Hanna Sterle took home the top spot in the distance medley as well, winning the event with a time of 13:14.45.
Senior
Martha Bill edged out a victory in the 5000-meter run at 19:29.96, defeating her Heidelberg counterpart by a third of a second.
Emily Jenkins placed fourth in the 60 Meter Dash crossing the finish line with a time of 8.09 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash JCU was lead by freshman duo
Noelle Saluan and
Ashura Powell. Saluan placed sixth with a time of 1:01.34, while Powell finished with a time of 1:01.37
Alainna Schmidt placed fourth in the 800 meter run for the Blue and Gold with a time of 2:29.53. Schmidt was able to hold of the fifth place finisher by 0.26 seconds.
The one mile run was a close call between Kira Judd for Otterbein and
Becky Rohwer for John Carroll. Rohwer finished second with a time of 5:16.81, while Judd finished first with a time of 5:16.29.
In the 300 meter run
Erin Kiley placed sixth and crossed the finish line in 10:46.92.
For the 60 meter hurdles
Sara Martinko finished the race at a time of 9.66 seconds which was good for fifth in the race.
JCU placed fifth in the 4x200 meter relay with
Joy Nyaanga, Emily Jenkins,
Sara Martinko and
Ashura Powell running in a time of 1:49.43
Freshman
Katelyn Frandanisa placed in both the loing jump and the triple jump. In the long jumo Frandanisa placed fifth with a 4.93 meter jump. In the triple jump Frandanisa placed seventh with a 9.80 meter jump.
The Blue Streaks finished fourth scoring 72 points.
JCU is in action next weekend, with trips to Berea for the BW Mid-February Meet on Friday and the All-Ohio Championships in Westerville on Saturday.
