John Carroll had been on quite a roll as of late, winning seven consecutive matches by a combined score of 53-10. The Blue Streaks had not tasted defeat since losing by a narrow 5-4 margin back on March 12 to Oberlin, currently the #39 ranked team in the nation according to the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Men's National Team Rankings released April 14.
Those same rankings also listed today's opponent, Case Western Reserve University.

The Spartans, also ranked #3 in the Central region, beat John Carroll, #20 in the region, by a 9-0 score in a match held between the two Cleveland area rivals at the Carlton Courts on the CWRU campus.
Box ScoreThe Spartans did not drop a set, and in doubles play, did not drop a game in two of the three matches.
One match did play out well for JCU, as
Jad Abdul-Aal and
David Sinense went toe-to-toe with the top ranked doubles team in the region, Chris Krimbill and Louie Stuerke. Although the Blue Streak tandem did not win, they acquitted themselves well in an 8-5 loss.
In singles play, Abdul-Aal and
Alex Guthrie each won four games and
Tyler Cole won three against a team that is now 18-6 on the year (including ten shutouts)and 9-1 at home. The Blue Streaks fell to 8-7.
