Blue Streaks Battle To The End But Fall To Carthage In NCAA First Round

Box Score The luck of the draw was that all five teams in the University of Chicago were ranked in the region, and some were nationally ranked.

Of the five, John Carroll was considered the longest shot as the #20 team in the Central Region.

That did not stop the Blue Streaks from battling to the end in their first round match-up in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship Friday. Facing Carthage, the #16 ranked team in the Central Region, the outcome was not decided until the eighth match was completed at four singles, giving the Red Men the 5-3 win.

The loss ends John Carroll's season at 14-8.

The Blue Streaks fell behind 2-1 after doubles play with only the number three team of Tyler Cole and Nick Siciliano prevailing, winning by a 9-7 score.

Once singles play began, John Carroll fought back with singles wins by Jad Abdul-Aal in the number one match and Cole at number five. But losses at two and three singles pushed JCU to the brink as Carthage held a 4-3 advantge.

Both Siciliano and Adsit took their matches to a third set before Siciliano was defeated.

JCU was making its second consecutive NCAA postseason appearance
