Box Score 2 John Carroll experienced two very different matches on the same Saturday
In the morning, the Blue Streaks faced the #19 ranked team in the nation, Case Western Reserve University, at the Cleveland Skating Club. Although the final score read 8-1 in favor of the Spartans, three of John Carroll's losses were in third set tiebreakers in singles play.
Lauren O'Malley tallied the Blue Streaks' lone point with an efficient 6-4 6-1 victory over Nithya Kanagasegar at #1 singles.
Madisyn Rini battled Kendal Holladay valiantly in the #2 single match, bouncing back from a 6-1 loss in set one to force a tiebreaker with a 6-4 win in the second frame. Rini fell in the tiebreak by a 10-5 count.
Jennifer Stroyne at #5 and
Molly Traverso at #6 singles also went to tiebreakers in their respective matches.
Later in the day, John Carroll met up with Capital University at the Cleveland State University Malaga Tennis Center as the two teams opened Ohio Athletic Conference play.Â
In dominating fashion, the Blue Streaks dropped just one game in nine matches to defeat the Crusaders, 9-0. O'Malley, Rini, Katherine Devine,
Natalie Bourlas,Â
Carlye Campagna and
Andreja Didovic all won by 6-0 6-0 scores in singles play.
JCU now improved to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
