Box Score 2 John Carroll men's tennis coach
Shaun Keenan decided many moons ago to make the annual spring trip for his program more than just a getaway.
The experience had to have a purpose, and with that in mind, the schedule will consist mainly of programs that, on paper, are either equal or better than John Carroll. The methodology behind that plan has led to a pair of OAC Championships and NCAA Division III postseason appearances.
2017 has been no exception thus far, as John Carroll has started off this year's spring trip with dates against Division III national power Coe College (IA) and Division I foe Creighton University.
On Sunday in Orlando, JCU fell by a 6-3 score to the #37 ranked Kohawks. Highlights of the match included a win by
David Sinense at #3 singles and an inspired battle by
Alex Guthrie who prevailed in a third set tiebreaker to win at #5 singles.
Also winning was the number one doubles team of
Jad Abdul-Aal and Sinense.
The Creighton Bluejays were simply a difficult match as the score would indicate in a match held Monday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. But Abdul-Aal did not bow down in his #1 singles match against Harrison Lang. The JCu senior forced a third set tiebreak before falling 10-8.
John Carroll is now 1-3 on the season.
