As OAC playoffs draw near, the John Carroll volleyball team knew they needed to bounce back in today's match against Marietta after a tough loss to Baldwin Wallace earlier this week.

A strong start allowed for the Blue Streaks to dominate the Pioneers in a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-21, 25-13).

The Blue Streaks arrived in Marietta, OH ready to compete. In the first, the Blue and Gold quickly established a 14-5 lead, one that the Pioneers would not be able to overcome.  John Carroll ended the first set 25-14.

Aggressive play by both teams allowed for fierce competition between the OAC squads. John Carroll was closing in with a 23-21 lead, forcing Marietta to take a time-out. Marietta would not score again in the second set, as John Carroll claimed set two with a score of 25-21.

The Blue and Gold started the third set quickly, taking a 6-0 lead. The Blue Streaks continued to build on this momentum, eventually creating a 16-5 lead.  A kill by freshman Brooke Hjerpe clinched the victory for John Carroll, winning the third set 25-13.

Hjerpe lead the Blue Streaks with 11 kills and 16 digs in the match.  Cassi Calamunci and Kailee Herbst chipped in an additional seven kills a piece.  Senior Caitlin Cianciolo also recorded 13 digs.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks' record moves to 15-11 overall and 2-5 in the OAC for the 2018 season.

John Carroll will next travel to Tiffin, Ohio to battle against Heidelberg University on Tuesday, October 23, at 7:00 P.M.
