Blue Streaks Extend Win Streak to Two with 5-1 Win over Heidelberg

| By:
Jaclyn Audino
Box Score Winning streaks can be difficult to string together in the Ohio Athletic Conference, especially as tournament time is nearing. On October 24, in a game at Don Shula Stadium against Heidelberg University, the John Carroll women's soccer team's 5-1 win now has them riding a two-game winning streak.

Senior Bailey Fischer said afterwards on the win, "We know we have to win to get into the tournament. Our destiny is in our own hands."

JCU came out rolling on all cylinders, firing eight shots within the first 15:55 of play. At the 18:34 mark in the first half, Fischer cracked the back of the net first. Assisting on the goal was sophomore Sydney Scello and freshman Brittany Dufalla.

Just under four minutes later, the Blue and Gold scored again. This time on the goal was Scello, scoring her fourth goal of the season. Dufalla added her second assist of the night.

With the 2-0 lead heading into the break, JCU held the advantage in shots (22-4), shots on goal (9-1), and corner kicks (5-1).

To open the second half, the Blue and Gold wasted no time to add another to the board. Junior Jaclyn Audino scored within the first three minutes, extending the lead to three (3-0). Fischer and Dufalla added assists on the goal, as Dufalla now leads the team with five assists this season.

"It is great that we all get involved. We all help each other," said Dufalla.

Heidelberg refused to let up, netting their first goal with 28:49 left on the clock to cut the deficit to two.

With 8:30 left to go, Fischer netted her second goal of the night. Shortly after, she scored again to notch her second hat trick of the season. Fischer, the reigning OAC Player of the Week, now has 45 goals in her career as a Blue Streak and only needs one more goal to tie the career record for goals in JCU history.

"The streak is always in the back of my head but if I can get a goal in the back of the net to help our team win, that is what matters most," said Fischer.

With the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 6-10-1 overall on the season, posting an OAC record of 3-5-0.

To close out the 2018 regular season, the Blue Streaks travel to Wilmington College on Oct. 27 to take on the Fightin' Quakers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
