Box Score John Carroll did not reach 20 goals, and that may have been the only shocking thing to happen Tuesday evening in Florida as the Blue Streaks downed Emerson College, 19-8.
Led by
Brooke McQuinn, the Blue Streaks opened the game with an eight-minute, 6-1 scoring run against the Lions. McQuinn tallied two goals, while
Meghan Harte,
Colleen Grombala,
Alexis Guage, and
Gina Vilsack added one.
By the 6:41 mark, Emerson crawled back to within three of the Blue Streaks (7-4). However, John Carroll went on another run to outscore the Lions 4-0 to take an 11-4 lead going into halftime.
John Carroll started the second half just like the first. During the first 10 minutes of the half, the Blue Streaks held Emerson scoreless while tacking on three more goals (14-4).
The Lions answered back with a goal of their own. But a goal by
Grace Curatolo put the Blue Streaks ahead by 10 to force a running clock, which would last for the remainder of the game. Emerson managed to score three more goals as time ran out.
However, Vilsack, McQuinn, Grombala, and Curatolo all scored at least once to secure the victory for John Carroll.
Curatolo and Vilsack continue to lead the John Carroll offense. The duo along with Grombala finished the game tying for the team-high in goals scored (4). Curatolo also passed the 150-mark for career goals scored.
In goal,
Elyssa Zablo took home the win, allowing four goals in her 34 minutes of play.
Megan Sarles then went in for the remainder of the game, matching Zablo with four saves of her own. The defensive effort, led by likes of McQuinn,
Sydney Lang,Â
Julie Hutchison and
Shannon Oberst, limited the Lions to 13 shots.
The Blue Streaks will next face Fredonia on Thursday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in their final game in Port Charlotte. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
