While the weather took a turn for the worst outside, the Blue Streaks caught fire as the day went on.  After suffering a 41-6 loss to nationally ranked Mount Union, John Carroll handled Ohio Northern in a 30-9 victory to split their two Ohio Athletic Conference dual meets Saturday at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

Andrew Perelka provided the single win for the Blue Streaks against the #7 ranked Purple Raiders, pinning Seth Hayes with 1:24 remaining in the second period.  The JCU lead would not last, however. Despite tight contests forced by Jeff Brichford at 141, Christian Hipsher at 184, and Joshua Stasek at 285, John Carroll was unable to gather more than six points.
 
The later half of the morning proved to serve the Blue Streaks much better, as they emerged victorious in six of the nine matches competed.  After a forfeit in Kyle Murray's favor at 125, Perelka (133) and Spencer Dusi (141)pinned their opponents, giving John Carroll a quick 18-0 advantage. Perelka's win earned him his 10th pin out of 18 total wins in a John Carroll singlet.

Jarrad Lasko used a takedown in the closing seconds to win at 149, and Danny Novak earned a decision at 157 to push the John Carroll lead to 24-0.

Later wins by Hipsher at 197 and Stasek at 285 enabled the Blue Streaks to beat Ohio Northern for just the third time in the last 13 meetings. 

Putting a notch in both the win and loss column, JCU moves to 2-2 in conference action, and 7-3 overall in dual meets

John Carroll will take to the mat next Friday, January 25th at the two-day Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational in Wheaton, Illinois
