Blue Streaks Take It To Four But Fall To 11th Ranked Polar Bears

Ally Bartolone topped 30 assists for the ninth time this season
Box Score Considering the past fortunes of John Carroll volleyball teams in facing Ohio Northern, especially on the road, even taking a set is cause for celebration.

But the celebration was short-lived, as the Blue Streaks fell in four sets after winning the third against the 11th ranked Polar Bears, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-14

JCU fought uphill in the first set, but actually had advantages in the second and third sets. In the second, John Carroll held an 11-5 lead only to surrender a 9-1 run that effectively tilted the game to the home team.

The Blue Streaks again held a late in the third, at one point standing on top 18-14. But the Polar Bears chipped away and tied the frame 20-20, and then at 23-23. But two kills by Brooke Hjerpe gave the Blue Streaks the set.

Ohio Northern led virtually the entire fourth, breaking away from a 5-5 tie to cruise to the 25-14 win that closed out the match.

The home team improved to 20-4 overall and 5-0 in the OAC with the triumph, while John Carroll slipped to 17-8 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Sarah Calabrese had 15 kills, Hjerpe had 14 and Cassi Calamunci had 12 for the Blue Streaks. Ally Bartolone racked up 34 assists, the ninth time this season she has topped 30 in a match.
