Jarrad Lasko Becomes 106th All-American In John Carroll History With Two Clutch Wins

Jarrad Lasko
Jarrad Lasko got pinned in his first match of the 2019 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

For many wrestlers, this might be viewed as devastating. For Lasko, it was familiar terrain. He had experienced this in many tournaments throughout this career.

He went about the business of climbing back in the consolation bracket, and in doing so, became the 106th Division III All-American in the history of the storied John Carroll program

Lasko, competing in his second national championship tournament, shook off the opening loss to the #1 seed (Da`mani Burns of Johnson & Wales) to beat Ty Johnson of Concordia-Morehead by an 8-3 count in his first consolation match. Then, in the All-American round, Lasko had a nail-biter before prevailing over Logan Schlough of UW-Lacrosse, 2-1.

He is the first All-American since Dan Mirman placed third in 2016.

Lasko will wrestle Ryan Snow of Brockport State in his consolation quarterfinal match.

After one day of competition, John Carroll is tied for 33rd out of 74 teams.

Two other Blue Streaks competed today. Jarrod Brezovec, in his first NCAA Championships, went 0-2 at 141 pounds. Sam Gross went 1-2 in his three bouts at 165 pounds. Also competing in his first national tournament, Gross fell by a 5-3 score in his All-American round match to the #2 seed, Taylor Shay of Roger Williams.
