Men's Tennis Fires Past West Conn in First Round of NCAA Championships

With the win, the Blue Streaks move forward to the Second Round on Saturday at 3 p.m. vs. Emory. The Blue Streaks have now won matches in three of their last four NCAA appearances.
Box Score ROME, Ga. -- Even with a new lineup, John Carroll University Men's Tennis still managed to roll past its foe to start the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships.

In the First Round, the Blue Streaks captured a 5-0 victory over Western Connecticut State University.

With the win, the Blue Streaks move forward to the Second Round on Saturday at 3 p.m. vs. Emory. The Blue Streaks have now won matches in three of their last four NCAA appearances.

Doubles play yielded wonderful early results for the Blue Streaks, despite new pairings. Doug Moore and Andrew Triner took care of business the quickest at No. 2 doubles. The veterans combined for an 8-1 conquest to open things up.

Adi Jha and Parker Holyn teamed up for the first time since April 17, doing great work at No. 2 doubles. The seniors corralled an 8-3 victory, pushing the lead to 2-0. At No. 1, Mark Beebe and Logan Langovsky wrapped up the clean sweep at doubles. The senior-freshman duo notched a 8-2 conquest.

Jha carried the Blue Streaks to the precipice of a victory. The St. Edward grad rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 singles, upping the advantage to 4-0.

Mark Beebe sealed the JCU win at No. 2 doubles. The Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin grad boomed a 6-0, 6-1 win, finalizing a JCU 5-0 win.

At the time the victory was clinched, Logan Langovsky trailed in the second set, 1-0, after a 6-3 first set; Grant Sarnowski possessed a 6-2, 4-0 win; Triner stood ahead 6-0, 3-0; and Alvaro Estrada Rosabal enjoyed a 6-0 set one win entering set two.

"I'm very happy with how our team performed today," said Head Coach Shaun Keenan. "We had several players step up today. I continue to be impressed with how Logan and Grant are performing as freshmen. And even without a senior leader in Andy, our other seniors excelled today.

"Tomorrow will be a big test against a top five team in the country. I'm looking forward to seeing how our guys can compete on the next level."

Emory awaits JCU in the next round. The Eagles are a powerhouse program. Though 5-3 on the year, the Eagles will be a tall test for the undefeated Blue Streaks. Emory won the 2019 National Championship, and have a lengthy history of success.
