The Blue Streaks showed fight in the final match of the season.
Box Score ROME, Ga. -- Following a win via a 5-0 sweep on Friday, John Carroll University Men's Tennis drew a fearsome foe in the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships.

The Blue Streaks found themselves paired up against the Emory Eagles, one of the top teams in the country. A regular in the national tournament, the Eagles won the last National Championship played in 5-3.

Despite a strong battle, the Blue Streaks dropped a 5-0 decision to Emory.

With the loss, the Blue Streaks' season came to a close. The Blue and Gold finish out the 2021 campaign with an 8-1 record.

Emory began the day with a sweep of the doubles competition. Mark Beebe and Logan Langovsky paired up again on Saturday after a conquest on Friday. The senior-freshman duo could not pull out a win, though, falling 8-2.

Doug Moore and Andrew Triner worked in tandem at No. 2, putting up the closest fight. The veterans worked hard but were defeated, 8-4.

Adi Jha and Parker Holyn combined at No. 3 doubles. The seniors looked good yesterday, but lost today's match, 8-1.

Emory sealed the deal with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Will Wanner dealt Grant Sarnowski a 6-0, 6-0 defeat. Despite the loss, Sarnoswki has a bright future and will help to lead the team the next few seasons. Andrew Triner also suffered a defeat for the Blue Streaks, dropping a 6-1, 6-0 decision.

At the time of the clinch, Langovsky trailed at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 1-5; Beebe was behind at No. 2 singles, 0-6, 0-5; Jha was battling fiercely at No. 5, 4-6, 0-2, and Alvaro Estrada Rosabal was looking for a comeback after falling behind 1-6, 0-5.

Despite the defeat, the Blue Streaks have no reason to hang their heads. In a year dominated by COVID-19, the Blue Streaks persevered.

"I couldn't be prouder of our men's team," said Head Coach Shaun Keenan. "Even when playing short-handed, they showed no quit. All season long, our seniors showed the younger guys how to be leaders on and off the court. Thanks to them, our program is in great shape. We have a bright future ahead, and I can't wait for next season."
