Wrestling Rolls in Road Victory at Otterbein

John Carroll notched a win in Westerville.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Two Ohio Athletic Conference matches, two wins for John Carroll Wrestling.

The Blue Streaks returned to the mats on Tuesday, and performed well following a short Thanksiving break.

The men of Mark Hawald secured a 34-9 conquest of the Otterbein Cardinals on the road tonight.

The match of the night for JCU may have been the 165 pound bout, which featured a pair of ranked veteran grapplers in JCU's Luke Reicosky and Otterbein's Ryan Whitten. Reicosky got the win by a narrow 2-1 decision, thanks in part to a stalling penalty called on Whitten late in the third period.

Otterbein started in the lead with an opening forfeit and a wild 141 pound match that saw Anthony Santagata lose in extra time. But buoyed by an Andrew Perelka pin (adding to his record number) and a Kale Buckiso victory via a 7-2 decision, JCU knotted things up at 9-9 entering 157. From there, it was all Blue Streaks.

Patrick McGraw snagged a tech fall win as time expired in the first period to snatch the lead for JCU, with Reicosky pushing the lead further. Back-to-back dominant wins by Daniel Devera and Caiden Rodgers sent the score soaring ever higher.

And the Blue Streaks' heavyweights did not disappoint. Jesse Kanatzar picked up an 8-3 conquest over a ranked foe in Jarrod Setliff, and Tom Blackwell roared for a tech fall victory to finish things off.

Now 2-0 in OAC play and 5-1 overall in dual matches, the Blue Streaks will be tested this weekend at the RIT Invitational, set for Saturday in Rochester.
