ROCHESTER, NY – John Carroll Wrestling performed excellently Saturday at RIT Invitational.

The Blue Streaks recorded a second-place team finish with 133 points, finishing second only to the hosts, RIT.

Andrew Perelka won his bracket at 133 pounds and Patrick McGraw won his weight class at 157 pounds. Luke Reicosky tabbed runner-up honors at 165 pounds as part of a strong day for the Blue Streaks.

"Andrew wrestled great to repeat his title," said Head Coach Mark Hawald. "Patrick earned his first title here, which was great. Luke lost a close match against another returning All-American."

Andrew Perelka's assault on history on Saturday continued in his traditional, dominant fashion at 133 pounds, drawing near to 100 wins.

Perelka opened with a bye before winning his opening match over Brett Rosenberg (Oswego State) with a fall at 1:25. Another Oswego State foe, Michael Santore, met Perelka's wrath in the quarterfinal with an 187-7 major decision. Perelka then picked up a 10-4 decision and won the championship with a quick pin of Shailen Savur (Wesleyan (CT).

Patrick McGraw cruised through the first few rounds at 157. His first close match came in the semifinal, with an 11-7 decision win over Logan McGloine (Oswego State). Aaron Goldman of (Wesleyan (CT) gave the Saint Ignatius product a good bout, but McGraw prevailed, 4-1.

Luke Reicosky suffered a tough loss in the championship match of the 165 pound bracket. The veteran roared early on, with a pin and then two major decisions. He got past Jack Reusing of (Wesleyan (CT) in the semifinal, 5-2, clinching a berth in the final vs. Austin Lamb (RIT). Lamb, ranked at #5 in the preseason NWCA rankings, dealt Reicosky a 3-2 loss.

Kale Buckiso finished fourth at 149 pounds. He opened with a pin win followed by two close decisions. In the semifinal, Buckiso lost to the eventual champ, Chris Perry of Trinity (CT), 4-2. Buckiso went on to drop the third-place match narrowly, 5-4.

Jesse Kantazar similarly earned a fourth-place mark. The sophomore tabbed a pin, tech fall, and major decision to get to the semifinal. Nicholas Smith (RIT) handed the Tallmadge native his first loss of the day, 3-2. Kantazar then beat his teammate, Brady Leczo, in the consolation semifinals, before losing an 8-2 affair in the third-place match.

Tom Blackwell finished fifth at 285 for JCU. The Buffalo native got a pin win and a tech fall before dropping a 4-0 loss in the semifinal to the top seed, Jake Pine (Oneonta State). Blackwell lost the consolation semifinal before earning fifth place.

Both Daniel Devera (174) and Stefan Farian (184) nabbed sixth-place finishes for the Blue Streaks.

John Carroll will return to action next Saturday, heading to Illinois for the North Central Invitational.
