Women's Tennis Bests Yellow Jacks in Penultimate Match of Regular Season

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- In the penultimate match of the regular season, John Carroll Women's Tennis earned a win.

The Blue Streaks fired past Baldwin Wallace on Friday, 6-3.

The Blue Streaks took care of business at the Short Family Tennis Center, though the match stretched on as the cold creeped in as a couple matches took some time.

John Carroll rolled to wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles in relatively quick fashion. Mia Zivkovic and Caroline Chandler formed the No. 2 duo, and cruised to an 8-3 conquest. Morgan Little and Emily Duckett worked well together at No. 3, firing off an 8-2 win.

The No. 1 doubles match took the longest, as Megan Reese and Jaclyn Voss paired up. In a battle that had every fan watching with bated breath, Reese and Voss experienced a narrow 8-7 defeat, losing the tiebreaker.

Reese rebounded nicely at No. 1 singles. She was the first Blue Streak to conquer her foe, rolling to an 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Zivkovic won the first set, 6-1, and was in a modest deficit in the second set, 3-2, before being forced to withdraw at No. 2 singles.

Peyton Crumpler needed a bit of extra time at No. 4 singles, but managed to get her job done, earning a 7-5, 6-2 win.

Voss got back to her winning ways in singles, occupying the No. 5 spot. The South Bend (IN) St. Joseph grad corralled a 6-2, 6-2 win. Emily Duckett also notched a win, 7-5, 6-3.

The No. 3 match took the longest. Caroline Chandler dropped the opening set, 8-6, as the players traded a host of lengthy volleys. The freshman battled all the way back in the second set, earning a 6-3 victory. In the tiebreaker, Chandler dropped a narrow, hard-fought 11-9 tiebreaker in a thrilling ending despite the defeat.

John Carroll has an important match on tap. The Blue Streaks will host Ohio Northern on Saturday after the ribbon cutting for the Short Family Tennis Center. The match will also have important implications for seeding in the upcoming OAC Tournament.
