Alex Phillip is on a quest for history this season. His 2023 indoor campaign opened with a record-setting effort in the mile. The senior roared for a time of 4:04.13 to re-set his own JCU record. Phillip was pursuing the national record, which he fell short of, but his time still ranks ninth in NCAA Division III history. Tommy Naiman (4:13.96) and Joe Backus (4:22.21) followed with fourth- and sixth-place finishes.

Garrett Clark kicked off the year with a marvelous start in the 400m. The veteran won the event with a time of 48.21, breaking down the school record. Basheer Alramahi burst onto the scene, following Clark with a fourth-place effort of 49.27.

John Carroll got a promising finish in the 4x400, losing to Mount Union's well-known relay by just 0.38 seconds. Alrahami, Clark, Correia, and Dustin Horner combined for a time of 3:17.79. Even better, that's a new school record.

JCU's effort in the 4x400 could be a key sign of special things to come for the men of Kyle Basista.

In the mid-distance, Caleb Correia and Ethan Domitrovich teamed up in the 600m, earning respective times of 1:23.17 and 1:23.78 for fourth and fifth.

In the jumps, Corey Minton steered the day with a hop of 6.44m for sixth.

The Blue Streaks throwers returned to the ring today. Top ten finishes included Matthew Russo claiming sixth in the shot put (13.87m) and 10th in the weight throw (14.49m) and Zach Szafarski tabbing 9th in the weight throw (15.38m).
