The Blue Streaks have a bright season ahead after firing out of the gates.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – To prep for the rigor of Ohio Athletic Conference competition in a few weeks, John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving hit the pool early this season.

The Blue Streaks made a quick trek to Westminster College, looking to showcase the team's young talent in early October.

The men of Tanner Barton did just that, registering a 198-90 victory over the Titans on the road.

FULL RESULTS

The Blue Streaks got things started right with a conquest in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Luke Novak, Patrick Branch, Forrest Campbell, and Daniel Argalious combined for a time of 1:37.86 in the first event of the year. Yuriy Gorobchuk, Joe Nadur, Owen Holm, and Bryce Liddell also earned a second-place time of 1:39.60.

Sam Kmet kicked off his collegiate career in style for JCU. The freshman flew to a time of 10:32.00 in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, beating out the competition by 41 seconds. Bryce Liddell then showed no rust in the 200 Free, as the junior clocked in a top time of 1:49.09. Gorobchuk acquitted himself well in his collegiate individual opener with a second-place mark of 1:51.21 in the event.

A familiar face rose to the top in the 50 Back, as Forrest Campbell clocked in at 24.53 for the victory. Joe Nadur (25.69) and Luke Novak (25.73) completed the 1-2-3 sweep. Another clean sweep followed later in the 100 Fly. Owen Holm did the trick this time with a time of 54.26, while Bailey Parsons and Jacob Burton tabbed second and third, respectively.

Bart Kubis carded his first college win in the 50 Breaststroke. The freshman touched the wall at 27.56, followed by Patrick Branch at 28.10. In the 100 Fly, it was the sophomores' time to reign, as Owen Holm won the day with a time of 54.26, while Parsons penciled in second at 55.15.

Daniel Argalious logged a win in the 50 Freestyle, the start of what will hopefully be a great season for the sophomore. The Saint Ignatius grad timed in at 21.63 for the win. Dom Falcon made a nice debut with a time of 22.09.

The youngsters shared the stage in the 100 Free. Branch – a Beverly Hills, MI native – locked up first place in 49.41. But Falcon was right behind him at 49.73, while Parsons completed the sweep with a mark of 51.28. JCU again dominated in the 100 Breaststroke, as Kubis bested the field with a time of 59.35. Nadur was just behind the frosh at 59.68 for second.

Jacob Burton stole the limelight with his first individual win in the Blue & Gold, taking the crown in the 500 Free. He enjoyed a nice margin of victory with a winning mark of 5:10.28. Aidan Hulseman clocked in at second in 5:18.74 for the Blue & Gold.

As anticipated, the 50 Fly was a scintillating race for Barton's Blue Streaks. Campbell, Holm, and Argalious enjoyed a near photo finish while hitting a sweep. Campbell won at 24.39, while Holm and Argalious finished at 24.62 and 24.69. Liddell's time did not count, but his 23.29 time would have won the race, while Falcon's non-counting time of 23.81 also wowed.

Nadur and Kubis finished 1-2 in the final individual event, the 100 IM. Nadur flew to first in 54.20, while Kubis clocked in at 57.49.

The evening ended on a happy note for JCU. Branch, Argalious, Campbell, and Holm combined for a victory in the 200 Free Relay. The quartet worked for a time of 1:26.65 for first.

The Blue Streaks will have a few weeks before competing again in the pool. John Carroll will head to Ohio Northern on October 28 to open OAC competition.
