Women's Track & Field Fires into April with Successful Meet at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio – As the calendar turns from March to April, John Carroll Women's Track & Field starts a critical month of preparation for May's championships. 

Despite wild weather this weekend, the Blue Streaks got some great results at this weekend's Bob Kahn Invitational at Oberlin College.

Highlights happened across events, with a host of first-place finishes in the long jump, discus,  4x100, and 100m. 

Results

Genevieve Arnold enjoyed her best outdoor season opener in the long jump with a 5.41m leap and first place finish. Olivia Stefka (4.74m) and Ella Zambruno (4.43m) also tabbed top-10 placings. 

Emmy Bryan also looked great in the jumps, recording a hop of 1.50m for fourth in the high jump, and was joined by Sarah Shreffler in the top ten. Sticking with the jumps, Tori Miller led the way in the triple jump at 10.45, followed by Sarah Sadd (9.96m), Stefka (9.89m), and Massey Andrykovitch (9.83m).  

Kelsey Dunn performed nicely, tallying a lifetime best in the Hammer Throw. The veteran tallied a mark of 44.60m for fifth. Sarah Hart joined her in the top 10 with an eighth-place mark of 41.97m. Additionally, Breanna Berwald tallied a throw of 35.07m, a personal best. 

Dunn followed it up on Saturday with a winning effort on the discus, taking the crown with a championship effort 43.07m. Berwald also impressed with a sixth-place tally of 34.48m. And finally with the shot put, Beckford snagged eighth with a mark of 10.46m. 

Freshman Leah Fritsch opened up with a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw on Friday, surpassing 30.54m. Caroline Beery heralded the pack in the pole vault with a third-place mark of 3.33, followed by Meredith Glavach (3.18m) and Fritsch (2.88m). 

The sprints on Saturday saw a nice start for JCU in the 4x100. Mia Scott, Taylor Anthony, Rosie Murray, and Genevieve Arnold snagged a winning time of 48.64. Murray and Arnold each enjoyed strong placings in the 400m, as Murray clocked in at 59.82 for second and Arnold notched 1:03.74 for eighth. 

Anthony returned to the track in the 100m and quickly conquered the competition. The senior secured first in the event with a mark of 12.61. Scott clocked in at 13.39 for fourth, while Kaleigh McNamara (13.52) and Zambruno (13.57) each got into the top 10. 

McNamara led the pack in the 200m, rolling to a time of 28.11. Mia Scott also repped JCU in the top 10 at 28.54.
