Alex Phillip wins second USTFCCCA National Male Athlete of the Week

| By:

University Heights, OH- National Champion Alex Phillip continues to rack up awards. Earlier today, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their national DIII male and female athletes of the week, with Phillip garnering the male honor.

At the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford University, Phillip destroyed the NCAA DIII 10k record by seven seconds, posting a 28:31.60 time, coming in third place, finishing behind two Division I runners. Coincidentally, he broke the record on the same track that former DIII standout Ian LaMere broke the record seven years ago.

This is Phillip's second national athlete of the week honor of the season, winning the first award after breaking the outdoor 5k record by four seconds earlier this month, at the Stanford Invitational.

As the OAC Championships draw near, the Akron native will be looking to an already full trophy, adding the second national male athlete of the week honors to 13 OAC athlete of the week awards and a host of national records.

He'll look to continue his excellence at the OAC Championships on May 4 and 5.
