It was a year to remember for JCU Cross Country and Track & Field.
NEW ORLEANS – This is truly a golden era for John Carroll Cross Country and Track & Field.

For the second straight year, the Blue Streaks have finished top three in the running for the Al Carius Men's Program of the Year in Division III, as bestowed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Blue Streaks completed the 2022-23 academic year in third place in Division III.

A year ago, the Blue Streaks tabulated a runner-up effort. This year, the Blue Streaks showed why last year was not a fluke, with an outstanding overall effort once again in all three seasons.

During cross country in the fall, the Blue Streaks were flying high again, with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Alex Phillip crowned himself the national champion for the second straight season, as he helped the program ascend to the podium again. His efforts elevated the program and his teammates around him quite well.

During indoor season, the Blue Streaks compiled a sixth place finish nationally. Phillip notched runner-up efforts in the 3000m and 5000m races. Basheer Alramahi tallied an All-American finish of third in the 400m, while both the 4x400 and Distance Medley Relays captured All-American medals.

During outdoor season, the Blue & Gold achieved a tie for third place. In doing so, the Blue Streaks claimed a trophy for the second straight year. Alex Phillip concluded his storied John Carroll career by hitting the "Distance Double," besting the field in both the 5k and the 10k in historic fashion. Garrett Clark reeled in the All-American medals also, as he continued a career that stacks up with the greats. Ethan Domitrovich earned a spot on the podium in the Steeplechase for the second straight year. And to top it all off the 4x100 and 4x400 Relays stole the show with All-American efforts.

Overall, it was a season to remember for the Blue Streaks, as the Kyle Basista rolls on amidst a golden era for John Carroll Cross Country and Track & Field.

About the Al Carius Men's Program of the Year award:
The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution's finish at the NCAA Championships.

In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team's finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.
