Volleyball Sweeps Penn State Behrend to Get Back in the Win Column

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – In the team's return home, John Carroll Volleyball got a Wednesday night victory.

The Blue Streaks put on an impressive performance taking three straight sets from the Penn State Behrend Lions, with set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-13.

John Carroll advances to 10-5 on the season with the team's second home victory of the year.

The Blue Streaks came out hot on their home court, catching the Lions' defense stunned with 8 straight points. Jessica Liddle had a phenomenal run at the serving line, tallying four service aces. Kendra Dziubinski led the team in the first set with 4 kills, as her dominant performance pushed the Blue Streaks to win the first set 25-16.

Carrying the energy from the first set into the second, John Carroll took a quick 6-point lead. Marissa Lynch and Jennifer Follmer made for a lethal combination on the front lines, earning multiple points for the Blue Streaks. Mary Kate Sheehan entered into the game and hammered in three more kills to lengthen the lead.

Penn State Behrend found back against the Blue Streaks with many well-timed blocks, but the Blue Streaks' offensive was no match. Natalie Glowe strung together a few kills and strong serves to bring the second set to 24-19. Sophomore Deja Whitten closed set two with an amazing block, her first of many throughout the night, bringing the score to 25-19.

In a much closer start to the third set, the Lions forced some JCU efforts. But despite the visitors' best efforts, the Blue Streaks proved to be no match for them. Electrifying blocks from Steph Conley and Jessica Liddle sparked the team's offensive efforts.

Jillian Kellick proved to be a powerful force, earning multiple blocks and kills during the set to give the team a 13-point lead. Excellent digs from Payton Miozzi and Maddie Maziarz kept the Lions from advancing. The third set came to a close with a score of 25-13.

In total, Jessica Liddle, Jennifer Follmer and Kendra Dziubinski ended the game with a combined 18 kills to lead the way. Seniors Lexi MacDonald and Payton Miozzi held down the defensive front with a shared total of 19 digs, with freshman Natalie Glowe contributing an additional nine.

John Carroll heads back on the road this weekend. The Blue Streaks will begin Ohio Athletic Conference play with a match at Wilmington on Saturday at noon, followed by a match vs. Bluffton at 2 pm.
