Blue Streaks Continue To Gather Momentum Coming Off The Meet Weekend

The indoor track & field season is back as the Blue Streaks looked to compete for the first time in 2024. A large contingent of the women competed at the Spire Midwest Open on Saturday, while a few throwers attended the Muskie Meet #2 in an OAC Matchup as well.

A busy Saturday in Geneva got underway with the women, where the young duo of freshman Cassie Klein, and second year Katie Vasiliauskas both earned a PR's in the 3K. Klein finished with a personal record 11:14.97 time, and Vasiliauskas not only achieved a personal record 10:49.64 finish, but also finished first in the heat.

In the women's 60m, sophomore Paige Munchik hit a PR at 10.55, and Evie Arnold finished in second with a 9.56 time. Arnold came back and qualified for the 60m dash finals and ran a time of 7.97 seconds to place fifth. 

Sophomore Alyssa Vis dominated the women's one mile event, with a quick 5:26.19 first place finish. Junior Brooke Butler followed up Vis' performance with a PR in the fourth heat on the one mile, at 5:49.84. 

Some newcomers came into the scene for the Blue Streaks today in the mile. Freshmen Grace McKoon and Kelsey Sheridan made their track debuts as McKoon places ninth with a time of 5:25.01 and Sheridan placed tenth with a time of 5:25.26. 

In the women's 400m dash, Sophomore Rosie Murray earned an indoor personal best of 1:01.12 to earn fourth place in her heat. Mia Scott placed second in her heat in the 200m dash with a time of 27.50 seconds. 

In the field events, Freshman Sara Gennuso posts a mark of 1.40m in the high jump, picking up where she left off from her performances in December. 

At the Muskie Meet #2, Sarah Hartt posts a mark of 11.18 in the women's shot put to conclude the day for the team.

The Blue Streaks are back competing next weekend on January 26th at Kent State in the Doug Raymond National Qualifier, and at State College in the Penn State National Open.
