Luke Frazier Posts A Team High 18 Points To Lead The Way For The Blue Streaks In Win Against Washington & Lee
Box Score Hampden-Sydney, VA - The Blue Streaks came into day two of the Charlie Cobb Classic against Washington & Lee coming off of a huge victory against the host school, #7 ranked Hampden-Sydney last night. The momentum clearly carried over and helped the Blue Streaks earn a big 86-61 victory before they head back to University Heights.

Aidan Fitzgerald got things going early with a three on John Carroll's first possession of the game. A pair of Henry Raynor free throws would give the Blue Streaks a one point lead just over three minutes into the game. The Generals responded with a small run to take a 9-5 lead but Fitzgerald's second three of the game would set the score at 9-8 through four minutes of game time.

After the teams traded scores with David Gentry and Luke Frazier contributing for the Blue Streaks, a Frazier three extended the JCU lead to seven. Washington and Lee would get the score within one, but a Blue Streak run which was led by stellar play from Gentry and Kasey Hunt would get the lead back to 11. Another pair of layups from Hunt, including one at the buzzer would send John Carroll into the break with a 16 point lead.

Fitzgerald would once again get the scoring started in the second half with a layup on the first possession. Scores from Raynor and Will Yontek would set the lead at 18 with 18 minutes to play. The Generals would go on several mini runs to close the gap, but a mix of free throws and layups from Gentry wouldn't allow the deficit to reach single digits. A 7-2 run by Yontek and Raynor would lead into another Fitzgerald three to extend the Blue and Gold's lead to 21 with just under nine minutes to play. Five minutes later, back to back threes from Frazier and Fitzgerald would get the lead to 23 and seal the deal for John Carroll.

Layups by Devin Burgess and Tyree Turner would round out the scoring for the day and get a big roar from their teammates.

The Blue Streaks will make the long drive back to University Heights with a 2-0 record in the 2024 Charlie Cobb Classic after an 86-61 victory.

Luke Frazier led the way with a team high 18 points. Henry Raynor would add 15 thanks in part to a perfect 7-7 effort from the charity stripe.

"This was a team tournament and a team win. Dave Gentry took away the MVP of the tournament and everybody stepped up defensively and shared the ball very well," stated Frazier when talking about the team's effort this weekend.

"We wanted to get two wins out of this weekend and we knew we could not let the foot off the gas after last night," said Raynor when asked about how the momentum from the previous game helped today. "I thought we did a great job letting our defense generate offensive looks for us all weekend. I'm really proud of this group."

Aidan Fitzgerald would add 14 with David Gentry and Kasey Hunt contributing 11 points each.

"It's always great to get wins on the road and when you have our guards locking down on defense and our bigs dominating in the paint, we're a tough team to stop," said Dave Gentry while speaking about how it was a team effort from top to bottom. "Also a huge shout out to our coaches for stepping up and getting us going this past weekend."

The Blue Streaks are back in action on Saturday, January 4th at home against Wilmington. Tip-off is set for 4 pm.
