UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – John Carroll Men's Wrestling proved to be the hosts with the most.

The Blue Streaks racked up the top two finishes, with seven wrestlers earning first or second place, including two champions.

Wills Bronson and Aiden Ashburn both won championships, and interestingly, both were won over fellow Streaks.

Ty Daugherty, Kyle Bizjak, Adam Salek, Bear Horgan, and Thomas Lunt all tabbed runner-up efforts.

FINAL BRACKETS

The 165-pound weight class featured two star Streaks, Wills Bronson and Adam Salek. Bronson rolled into the title bout, with three straight first-period pins in fantastic fashion. The Christian Brothers alum soon found himself matchup with Salek, whose matches were slightly closer. The Medina native won via a 20-2 tech fall and a 14-2 major decision before a 9-6 sudden victory sent him to the first-place match. Bronson took the crown in a down-to-the-wire 4-2 decision.

The 184-pound bracket also had two Blue Streaks, Aiden Ashburn and Bear Horgan. Ashburn fought his way into the final with two decisions, as the Westlake native earned 8-3 and 7-1 wins. Meanwhile, Horgan cruised through his part of the bracket, as the Mentor grad earned 17-2 and 21-4 tech falls. Ashburn ruled the roost in the title bout, with a 7-1 decision.

Ty Daugherty rolled into the championship match at 133. The Avon native picked up a 5-1 decision to start and then picked up a late pin to get to the final battle. Daugherty settled for second with a 12-1 loss to Landon Hoffman of West Liberty.

Kyle Bizjak scored three dominant conquests to get to the title battle at 149. The freshman fired up back-to-back shutout tech falls, with scores of 18-0 and 16-0. The Aurora native won the semifinal with a nice pin in 2:28 next. The last match was close, but did not go in his favor in a 10-7 decision.

Thomas Lunt experienced plenty of battles en route to the championship bout at 285. Lunt fought past Angelo Camargo of Baldwin Wallace first in a 3-2 tiebreaker, and then won a dramatic 4-1 sudden victory. His semifinal contest was less stirring, as he won in an 9-1 major decision. But a title was not meant to be, as the sophomore lost by pin.

The Blue Streaks will now prepare to conclude the regular season on Thursday. John Carroll will matchup with Heidelberg at 7 pm for Senior Day.
