Blue Streaks Earn Second Place Finish At OAC Indoor Championships With Victories Led By Clark, Domitrovich, Correia, and 4 x 200 Meter Relay

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The John Carroll men's track & field team took second place, scoring 156 points at the 2024 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Muskingum University at the Bullock Health & Wellness Complex.

Mount Union would go on to win their twelfth consecutive OAC title scoring 198 points, while the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern would earn a third place finish scoring 97 points. 

To kick things off for day 2 of the meet, senior Jimmy Kartsonas would score 8 points for the Blue Streaks as he would earn a second place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.85 meters, which is a new personal best for Kartsonas. 

The men would continue that hot start going into the running events as the 4 x 200 meter relay consisting of Garrett Clark, Basheer Alramahi, Dustin Horner, and Mick Doyle would break the OAC, school, and facility record scoring 10 points for the team with a time of 1:28.45. 

Next up would be the men's mile as Ethan Domitrovich would secure a runner-up finish with a time of 4:13.89, followed by Caleb Correia (4:17.95) and Ian Paul (4:24.43) to earn fourth and eighth place finishes. 

In the 60 meter dash, Garrett Clark would return for his second event of the day earning fourth place with a time of 6.93 seconds, followed by Cam Klauke (7.02 seconds) who would notch an eighth place finish. 

The Blue Streaks would provide a spark as Caleb Correia would come back from the mile and win the 800 meter race with a time of 1:53.26, earning back-to-back OAC titles in the event. Correia's mark bests his 2023 time by a second and is a new facility and OAC record, which was previously at 1:53.50. Ian Paul would also come back from the mile and place seventh in the 800 with a time of 1:56.67. 

The men continued that success heading into the 1000 meter run as Ethan Domitrovich would be your OAC Champion in the event with a time of 2:29.00. Finishing right after was junior Michael Hvizdos crossing the finish line with a time of 2:30.11, which is a new personal best to be the runner up. Freshman Liam Noss would score crucial points for the group placing seventh running 2:32.82 also earning a personal best. 

In the 200 meter dash, Garrett Clark would return for his third and final event of the day earning back-to-back OAC titles in the event with a time of 22.08 seconds, which is a new facility record. Basheer Alramahi earned seventh running 22.36 seconds to score a couple of points for the Blue Streaks. 

In the final distance event of the meet, the duo of Tommy Naiman and Dominic Delmoro would shine yet again as they would earn second and third place finishes in the 3000 meter run. Naiman ran 8:29.45 and Delmoro ran 8:31.22. Isaac Bourne would score for the team as he would place eighth with a time of 8:42.73, which is a personal best for the sophomore out of Chagrin Falls. 

The 4 x 400 meter relay would conclude the OAC Indoor Championships as the relay would earn a fourth place finish crossing the finish line in 3:26.91. The group consisted of Mick Doyle, Brody Hanlon, Victor Ononogbo, and Cam Klauke

JCU will begin to prepare for the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, VA in two weeks. Some athletes will compete at the Mount Union Last Chance Meet in Alliance, Ohio. An important next two weeks as the Blue Streaks will look to continue their momentum heading into the final stage of indoor.
