Blue Streaks Continue To Show Out As They Prepare For Championship Racing Next Week

NORTH CANTON & ASHLAND, Ohio - The women headed into this week with their last meet week on the schedule as they traveled to North Canton, Ohio for the Walsh Tune-Up Invitational and Ashland, Ohio for the 14th Ashland Alumni Open Invite.

The Blue Streaks competed hard to place final performance marks and times as they prepare for postseason racing next week for the 2024 OAC Outdoor Championships. 

First up was the women's 4x100 meter relay consisting of Genevieve Arnold, Mia Scott, Ella Zambruno, and Rosie Murray placed first overall with a time of 48.05 seconds. Their time currently sits at second in the OAC. 

In the women's 1500 meter run, the Blue Streaks were well-represented. Sophomore Cassie Klein would lead for the Blue Streaks as she would place 11th overall with a time of 4:55.59, earning a personal best. Following behind for JCU was Emmaline Hannan (4:56.25) and Anastasia Bakuhn (4:58.66) also earning personal bests in the race, who finished in the top 15. 

Ellie Kitsmiller would make an appearance in the women's 400 meter dash and run 59.98 seconds, followed by Claire Eberhardt (1:00.42) and Kaleigh McNamara (1:00.92). They would all place in the top 5. 

In the women's 800 meter run, senior Annie Higgins placed third overall with a time of 2:19.66. Next was Morgan Edwards, who would earn a personal best mark of 2:21.89. 
In the women's 200 meter dash, both Mia Scott (26.60 seconds) and Ellie Kitsmiller (27.12 seconds) would both earn personal bests placing fourth and seventh respectively. 

At the Ashland Alumni Open Invite, a few Blue Streak athletes competed in the women's hammer throw. Breanna Berwald would place 24th overall with a mark of 40.04 meters, which is a personal best this outdoor season. Cara Jewett wouldn't be too far behind as she would throw a mark of 39.53 meters placing 26th. 

Coming up next week for the Blue Streaks will be postseason racing as they travel to Tiffin, Ohio for the 2024 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Heidelberg University on Thursday-Friday, May 2-3. They will look to continue their momentum from this outdoor season and make history for the program from their strong performances throughout the year.
