Blue Streaks Compete At Wooster Invitational Highlighted By Several Personal Bests

WOOSTER, Ohio - The men's track & field team traveled to the College of Wooster for the Wooster Invitational as the Blue Streaks headed into another meet weekend. 

Personal bests were the main highlights for the Blue Streaks today, taking advantage of another opportunity ahead of some bigger events circled on the calendar. 

Final Results

The Blue Streaks placed third out of eight teams in today's competition. Ashland took home the meet title, scoring 247.50 points. Coming in second were the Purple Raiders of Mount Union scoring 90.50 points. Right behind was JCU scoring 90 points. 

To get the day started in the field events, junior Matt Russo placed first overall in the men's discus throw with a mark of 46.41 meters. In the men's triple jump, the freshman from Erie, Pennsylvania Jeremy Frazao placed third overall with a mark of 12.78 meters to continue his push. 

In the running events, the 4 x 100 meter relay of Cameron Klauke, Garrett Clark, Dustin Horner, and Jimmy Kartsonas ran 41.05 seconds placing first overall in the event, which was a stadium record for the relay. 

The men's 1500 meter run was a stellar race as junior Tommy Naiman took home the win with a time of 4:00.15, followed by Dominic Delmoro running 4:01.59. Runners including Ryan Champa (4:05.18), Jacob Gerhardt (4:06.12), Isaac Bourne (4:06.40), and Phil Coury (4:09.08) all earned personal bests in the race placing in the top 15. 

In the men's 400 meter dash, senior Tyler Gast would make his first appearance of the outdoor season in the event, earning a time of 48.97 seconds placing fifth overall. Caleb Correia would place eighth with a time of 50.00 seconds and following behind was the freshman Tony Tirado earning a personal best time of 52.02 seconds. 

Senior Garrett Clark would continue to propel for the Blue Streaks as he would run 10.71 seconds in the 100 meter dash, earning a second place finish overall. Also continuing to have a stellar start to the outdoor season is Dustin Horner as he would place eighth overall with a time of 10.99 seconds. 

The men's 800 meter run was impressive as three runners for the Blue Streaks would run under 2:00. The dynamic duo of Ian Paul (1:55.35) and Michael Hvizdos (1:56.18) would place fourth and seventh respectively. Freshman Liam Noss would earn himself a personal best in the event with a time of 1:57.37, placing eighth overall. 

Cameron Klauke would earn a huge personal best in the 200 meter dash getting under the 22 second mark with a time of 21.99 seconds. Jimmy Kartsonas (22.02 seconds), Mick Doyle (22.71 seconds), and Brody Hanlon (22.76 seconds) would follow, placing themselves in the top 20. 

In the final distance event of the day, junior Jack Root would place fifth overall in the men's 5000 meter run crossing the finish line with a time of 15:20.51, followed by junior Aidan Stone placing sixth with a time of 15:26.54 earning himself a personal best. 

To conclude the day, the men's 4x400 meter relay consisting of Garrett Clark, Dustin Horner, Caleb Correia, and Basheer Alramahi ran the fastest time in Division III, running 3:12.52 to earn first place overall. The relays continue to make national noise and have gained momentum fully heading into the outdoor season. A great way to end the meet for the Blue Streaks!

The men will be back in action next week as they take on another meet weekend. A small contingent will compete at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, while most of the team will travel to the Tiffin Track Carnival in Tiffin, Ohio.
