Blue Streaks Stand At Fourth Place With 29 Points After Day 1 Of OAC Outdoor Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio - The day has arrived as the men traveled to Heidelberg University at Hoernemann Stadium for the 2024 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Tiffin, Ohio. 

After day one of the championship meet, the Blue Streaks currently sit at fourth place, scoring 29 points, highlighted by the men's 4x800 meter relay winning the event title, as well as many athletes advancing to the finals in their respective events. 

Day 1 - Final Results

Mount Union and Otterbein are currently tied for the lead with a total of 55 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace scoring 33 points. 

To get the day started, in the field events, freshman Tony Tirado would post a huge performance in the men's javelin throw, placing eighth overall with a mark of 47.04 meters, which is a new personal best. 

Moving on to the track, the duo of Basheer Alramahi (47.31 seconds) and Tyler Gast (48.33 seconds) would advance to tomorrow's 400 meter final after placing second and seventh overall in the prelims. 

The sprinters would continue to impress for this Blue Streak squad as a trio of JCU athletes would move on to the 100 meter finals. Garrett Clark (10.70 seconds), Jimmy Kartsonas (10.86 seconds), and Dustin Horner (10.84 seconds) would place second, third, and eighth overall in the event. Horner would earn a personal best in that event this season. 

In the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, senior Jacob Garhardt would lead for JCU as he would place fifth overall with a time of 9:37.66, which is a new personal best. Senior Cormac Peppard-Kramer would score for the Blue Streaks as he would place seventh with a time of 9:47.56. 

All three athletes from the men's 400 meter hurdles including Mick Doyle (53.90 seconds), Victor Ononogbo (54.76 seconds), and Tony Tirado (55.52 seconds) would all earn personal bests, as well as advance to tomorrow's final placing fourth, fifth, and seventh overall. 

The men's 200 meter dash was an exciting one as sophomore Dustin Horner would power his way to a new personal best of 21.35 seconds, placing second overall in the race, followed by senior Garrett Clark (21.37 seconds) placing third and Basheer Alramahi (21.51 seconds) placing sixth. Another trio of athletes continue to show out for the Blue Streaks and have put themselves into position to score crucial points for tomorrow. 

As the only champion of the day for JCU, the men's 4x800 meter relay consisting of Mike Hvizdos, Ian Paul, Liam Noss, and Caleb Correia would clock in at 7:33.02 to win the event and break the school record, as well as the OAC record. 

In the final event of the day, in the men's 10000 meter run, junior Dominic Delmoro would place fourth overall with a time of 31:12.28. Sophomore Isaac Bourne would be next as he would earn a fifth place finish, crossing the line in 31:17.27. Juniors Ryan Champa (31:42.91) and Aidan Stone (31:52.39) would also score for the Blue Streaks placing seventh and eighth overall in the race. 

The men will be back in action for day 2 tomorrow as the field events will get the meet started at 11:00 AM, followed by the running events taking place at 2:30 PM. The Blue Streaks will look to gather those points to carry them throughout the second day of the OAC Championships.
